what is the best internet marketing plan?
does someone have long, strong and successful detailed internet marketing plan for a bloggers ?
rel323 answers:
I have a blog myself and the first thing you need is patience. All the top Internet Marketers now promote good content and niche keywords as the secret to building traffic. Unless you are lucky this takes a lot of time to achieve.
Advertising it is good but it does cost money.

Sharon asks…
Which is best option?
Hi
I am venturing into the world of marketing as an affiliate product owner (clickbank) and would like some advice please.
I have considered blogging as a means to advertise my products. But, I am aware that blog.com and blogger.com etc may consider this a form of spamming.
I do not have the skills to set up my own website as a blog type site. Neither can I afford, at this stage, to hire a web designer. I am considering buying a domain name, hosting space etc but need advice on what would be best for my needs?
I do need the following:
- A package that has some form of easy build facility so I can simply build the site myself.
- A web site that has many pages for me to blog, upload pictures etc in fact has the same stuff blogger.com provides for its bloggers.
- A package with no restrictions so I can blog away whilst advertising my products as and when I deem appropriate.
I would appreciate any advice
Thanks

I would suggest that you use WordPress. If you are registering a domain the wordpress.org is excellent and easy to install on your own hosting. This gives you freedom to create whatever you like and is less restrictive than say hubpages or Squidoo etc.
For an easy option though WordPress.com gives a good service and again is free. I would recommend the .org version though. They have plenty of tutorials on their website to get you going.
Good luck with your Clickbank product!

rel323 answers:
Clickbank is a well-known, well run company that allows anyone to sell digital products online. All the products sold on Clickbank must provide instant access to purchases, so people can get their purchase within seconds of making the purchase. Their business model has allowed some well known personalities to become wealthy online, simply by selling a product on Clickbank.
But did you know that Clickbank is home to one of the biggest running scams of all time? The biggest scam on Clickbank works using a bait and switch method.
Here’s how it works: Someone comes up with a way to make money online, but for one reason or another, they don’t keep it to themselves and continue making money. What they do instead is create an information product that describes (hopefully) the method they used to make money online, and they list their product online using Clickbank, where thousands of affiliates can promote it for them.
Then thousands of people buy the money making guide, try the method, and get some limited success. Usually, they don’t make the money they had hoped for, and may wonder if they did something wrong.
Sound familiar? What went wrong? Was the money making guide all a scam? In reality, it’s a two-fold problem. First, the money making method probably wasn’t really designed to make millions of dollars , but most likely does have some sort of ability to make some money.
Second, no method of making money continues to work the same way once a million people know about it – the results get diluted.
So, the ideas are not infinitly scalable, and the market for the money making scheme has a limit – a ceiling on the profits that can be made. When too many people are doing the same thing, this upper limit is reached quicker.
So, why did this person who found a way to make money online decide to release his secrets, rather than just make money?
It’s because he could make a ton more money selling an information product, with a lot less work, than with any other type of make money systems.
You see, the guy that releases a make money product on Clickbank is following the only reliable, proven money making system that is used by every online millionaire.
If you wanted to make money, wouldn’t you want to do what every online millionaire does? Did you know that there are sites that will show you the easy way to follow this proven system, even if you have no technical skills, and even if you have little money to get started? Look around, and you too can get started making consistent money online.

A blog is really meant to provide useful, compelling content to do with the subject that your product is based on.
For example if your product is photographic components your blog would be based on photography etc with links to purchase your product positioned appropriately in your blog.
This isn’t spamming & is the way many bloggers make their money.
Also wordpress is another popular blogging platform.

Your Questions About Blog Marketing
Are there any blog search marketing companies?
I’m thinking of blogging full-time, and am curious whether there are any online companies that specialise in blog submission, optimization and traffic? I have read numerous articles that mention SEO and traffic solutions for bloggers but have been unable to find a company that may be able to do this for me. If you have any suggestions regarding full-time blogging, blog SEO or are able to suggest an online company to help me then please let me know!! Cheers
rel323 answers:
The quick answer is no, their really aren’t any that specialize in SEO for Bloggers, mostly because their is very little money to be made in it because its a very “do it yourself” kind of industry and the profit margins are low to non-existent, and are usually from Google Adsense revenues.
You are better off not worrying about the blog specialization and just finding an SEO company if you are serious about finding an agency to help you. SEO companies all have blogs and work optimizing their own blogs so they should be able to help you.
Darren Rowse is the man when it comes to learning how to make money blogging and he has some good do it yourself SEO Blogging tips (see link below).
The best advice is make relevant comments about other bloggers posts on their blogs and link to other bloggers that you read on your blog and they will return the favor. This is the best long term blogging strategy.

Virus and blog marketing?
Hi ![]()
I’d like to make the service we offer known to the national and international public through the Internet. It’s a web application (for business users) that will be soon active on a specific site. This site is already on line with an opening welcome page. I’ve often heard of virus and blog marketing. Are there any companies in charge of giving visibility and consequently producing traffic on the sites through virus and/or blog marketing? If there are, could you please give me a list of them?
Thank you very much!!
Max
rel323 answers:
It’s viral marketing. You can have it in several ways:
1- Write a PDF file, and give it away to our visitors. Encourage them to distribute the file to others. Make sure you include your URL in the file.
2- If you’re selling a product, run an affiliate program.
3- Install Tell A Friend script on your website.
Here’s a site that is using viral marketing technique, and generating tons of traffic and money:

What should a affiliate marketing be, a blog or website?
I want to make a content based website. I want to make it a affiliate based website. Should I choose a place like wordpress or make it a regular website.
Thanks for your help
rel323 answers:
For affiliate marketing both blog and WordPress are good.
But recommended is a WordPress blog as almost all the functionality that a sit can have, can be achieved in WordPress blog. Look of the homepage can be made like a site by making static homepage.
Using WordPress for this has manifold advantages as a lot of automation can be made in WordPress blog. Almost no maintenance or tech issues, further features of wordpress blog can be customized for a novoice user to a very tech-savy.
But it is recommended to have idea of self hosted blog Vs wordpress.com which is at http://reena.in/self-hosted-blog-vs-hosting-on-wordpress-dot-com/

Your Questions About Social Network Marketing Ideas
What are the downfalls of a musician depending on myspace for their web presence?
I was having this discussion with a friend today about the pro’s and con’s of a musician depending on a site like myspace. The first thing that came up was if an account was deleted that they would instantly lose access to their fanbase. Another though was how the competition is just a click away. And then there is the factor that myspace records cross markets to the entire network. This isn’t just myspace, but most music/social networks. The pro’s are pretty evident, but I’m looking to know what other NEGATIVES you think exist about this — and if it’s a better idea for a musician to have their own domain/web site, and if so, why.
Note: I’m personally aware that an artist should have their own website. What I’m looking for is valid arguments as to WHY they should have one instead of depending on sites like myspace or facebook (especially since myspace and facebook are free and having your own site can cost money). The biggest argument against it is cost. Many artists say what’s the point when myspace is free and easy to update (especially for someone not net savvy) — so what justifies it?
rel323 answers:
By having a myspace it only increases their fan base. If the band is legit they should have their own primary website for fans anways , myspace is just another way to network.

Nowadays it is hard to imagine the routine of modern society without the Internet. I think today we all use it without stopping to really think about the advantages or disadvantages it may have. However, facts as crimes often happen, and they should make us think about using the Internet.
On the one hand, Internet is a great source of information: you have access to all human knowledge levied. Thus, not having internet is an barrier for many things like sharing news, getting a job, learning culture …
On the other hand, many people violate copyright and promotes dishonesty. There are also people who blackmail and steal identities.
The most interesting topic is communication and social networks: We can talk to people all over the world, make friends and to meet our soul mate. It is also useful e-mail: saves paper and is quick and efficient. But the downside is that many people (especially children) are deceived daily by pedophiles, murderers and bad people. It is also a disadvantage, the lack of interaction in person, users can become people with antisocial tendencies.
Internet is also the largest market in the world: we can buy anything from books to skulls of fetuses. It offers many business opportunities and marketing. With a website and a good idea, anyone can make a fortune. Nevertheless the disadvantage of it is that there are many forms of fraud and cheating: Some people steal bank accounts, fake products are available…
We can find unlimited fun: music, videos and pictures of all type. There are many sites offering free entertainment. The inconvenience is that there are a large number of adult content and grotesque. Internet is flooded with pornography.
In my opinion is a fact that we must continue trying to improve Internet security measures. And frankly, it seems a bit sad so dependent on it. We should learn to live real life and not spend so much time sitting in a chair looking at the computer or mobile.

Anyone who can help me find a legit work at home?
I’ve been doing a lot readings on finding work at home and for some reason, they would always involve payments, money; and when this happens, automatically, I’d think it’s a scam. I thought that this whole thing is so simple, but when I dig deeper into things like these, wow… I just can’t believe it! I have no idea who to trust! So, anyone who can recommend jobs at home for ‘moms’? And plus too, I am not so sure if I can handle marketing things/selling since I don’t really have connections where I live and also, I don’t even have account in those social networking sites, since I just, well, don’t really feel comfortable with them and besides I don’t have a lot of acquaintances.
Anyone who can help me with this?? I deeply appreciate your time and your responses. Thanks a lot!
rel323 answers:
I no longer work from home but when I was a single mom I did, for several years. I am very knowledgeable on this topic because I spent 6 years researching and investigating over 50 work at home options. I have published articles, guides and reviews on this topic. I am happy to share some information that will help guide you in the right direction as well as give you the websites for a couple companies I have found to be more than reputable. However, no matter what, lesson number one is always do your due diligence. Thoroughly research any company you are considering and ask questions!
People are looking for work from home and the biggest problem is they don’t understand that there really are no work at home JOBS other then remote call center work. This is a viable option but there are some significant down sides to this. You are required to pay a fee, usually about $50, for a credit and background check, and if you don’t meet their criteria you will be out that $50 bucks. Also you have to have a 100% quiet work environment and the pay is pretty low. Most people are not able to make more than $100 a week at best. With all these negatives there are a couple legit call center jobs you can do from home and I will cite them in my profile to the left. However, most people aren’t looking for call center work.
The best way to earn an income from home would be to open your own legitimate home business. Small home businesses have increased in the last 5 years by about 200%. The best home businesses to start are those with a proven plan in place like Avon or Mary Kay however if you are like me, you are not interested in pushing products so let’s skip that.
Legitimate small home businesses should have a small cost involved but be careful, all the scams will be charging too so KNOW the business. Talk to a REAL person and ask questions. Less than $150 – $200 to start is reasonable and I would stay away from those wanting $600 – $1000 or more. If you are coming across places that say free then I would RUN don’t walk the other way! They never are in the end. (For those who want a home business for free, rethink that idea. I’ve never seen any business, home or not, that was free to own. If every business was free, everyone would have one.)
Alright so here are some things to look for in a home business. Ask the following questions and MAKE SURE you have a real person to talk to. If you can’t get a real person on the phone, walk away.
1. Are you rated with the BBB? (They should have C or better. Just because they have complaints or not a perfect A rating, doesn’t mean they aren’t a good company. ALL companies get complaints, it’s the manner in which they resolve them that determines their character.)
2. Are you a member of the US Chamber of Commerce?
3. Are you in good standing with Dunn and Bradstreet? (The credit agency for businesses)
4. Are your start up costs less than $200?
5. Who would be training me? (If it’s a “call center” type of call an “800 number” for help, that’s no good. You want to be trained by another business owner within the company. How can someone in a call center train you on something they themselves are not doing?)
6. How do you pay your business owners? (paper checks from a Federally Insured bank and/or direct deposit through a Federally Insured bank should be the answer. No “paypal”, money orders, cash or anything like that.
7. What National Publications can I find you in? (If they have a good rep, you should be able to read up on it somewhere)
8. Do you have any Fortune 500 partners or endorsements? (If Fortune 500 companies partner with them, you can bet they are legit because Fortune 500 Companies have lawyers that make millions a year making sure they only do business with reputable companies.)
9. How long have you been in business? (Definitely should be over 5 years, over 10 is even better)
10. Do YOU own a home business with this company as well?(If the answer is no, ask for the name and number of someone you can talk to who works with the company so you can get a good feel of things. If they refuse to provide it, walk away.)
No matter what you decide, AVOID these top 5 work at home scams.
5. Craft Assembly
3. Medical Billing
3. Email/Rebate Processing
2. Envelope Stuffing
1. Typing At Home / Data Entry (The biggest scam out there.)
As a breath of fresh air, I am NOT affiliated with any home business nor do I sell anything like “home business guides” or “work at home lists”. I merely offer my expertise and guidance, and yes, that’s free!
As I promised, I will list some home businesses that I have found to be VERY reputable and have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau in my profile to the left.
So as to follow Yahoo’s TOS, the sites can be found only IN MY PROFILE if you would like to see them.
I wish you the best of luck in your search!

One of my friends said that affiliate marketing is a great source to earn an extra source of income. What is the affiliate marketing actually means?
rel323 answers:
Hi Marine,
As an online marketing professional since 1994 I agree with your friend – you can definitely earn extra money doing affiliate marketing. There are lots and lots of really neat products you can offer on your website to sell. I only offer things I like myself that I have personally checked out very thoroughly first.
The first thing you’ll want to do is to get a bit of simple education on the subject. After a huge amount of personal research and a lot of disappointments, I took an online course offered by a top affiliate marketing pro and I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased with what I learned.
This would be my advice – first do a simple course, and from there, that will give you the direction to go in which will work for you personally.
You can reach me through my website below and I will answer more questions for you if you like. The main thing is – do NOT part with any money until you are certain you are making a wise investment (that goes for anything in life, too!).
If you just want to get started right away and get some free information or do the course, click on the second link below.
Thanks for asking the same question I was asking a while back!

rel323 answers:
Learn Affiliate Marketing – 3 Tips on Promoting Other People’s Products
Many people decide to learn affiliate marketing when beginning to make money online. This is a great way to begin, as you are simply promoting other people’s product, and usually earning a nice commission for doing so. With affiliate marketing, you don’t have to deal directly with customers and you can get your feet wet into the world of marketing before moving on to create your own products.
Below are 3 tips that can help you learn affiliate marketing in order to do it correctly.
Do your Research
You should not enter a niche or promote a product blindly. To have the most success in affiliate marketing, you must know how to thoroughly research a market to determine its needs. Market research will show you what niches contain desperate buyers ready to pay for an answer to their problems. Keyword research is also important in creating content and getting traffic to your site. If you just write articles and blogs with no keywords, how is anyone supposed to find them?
Avoid Direct Linking
Unless the product you are trying to sell has an extraordinary sales page that converts like hotcakes, you should not try to direct link. Direct link is where you include your affiliate link (or a domain forwarded to your affiliate link) in the resource box of an article. Creating a landing page and linking to it will allow you to “pre-sell” your visitor by giving them more information on the solution to their problem.
Affiliate Marketing can be Done for Free
Some people will tell you that you should dive right into Pay Per Click advertising if you want to make money, but this isn’t exactly true. While PPC is a great moneymaker, you can also lose a lot of cash if you do not do it correctly. It is recommended that you learn affiliate marketing using free methods when first beginning, in order to have money to reinvest in tools and programs that can help teach you the paid advertising aspects that you can incorporate in the future. Article, video, and forum marketing are three ways you can begin making money from other people’s product absolutely free.

Helen asks…
What are some easy ways to make money through affiliate marketing?
I’m talking about programs similar (but not limited) to Adscend Media.
I don’t know coding or anything like that. I know people that do affiliate marketing work, and i’d like to get in on that myself.
Where are some places to go for this work? What can i do to make money if i don’t know coding/computer programming? Where can i get more info on how to work with affiliate marketing? Information on stuff like that would be greatly appreciated.
rel323 answers:
I am a full-time Affiliate Marketer and I received my training at WAU. It’s a great place to start and you will become an expert within weeks. I’m very happy with the income I earn, especially knowing its only limited by my actions or lack of actions.
I recommend you review the training, decide what kind of niche you want to dominate and take consistent action. Some of the Top Affiliate Marketers are earning 6 figures, most without investing any money other than training.
FYI: Be careful of those scammy “get-rich-quick” websites. This business takes effort and time, but extremely worth it in the end.
Best Wishes!

Your Questions About Blog Marketing Is
For stable, secure and big organization – which one of PHP, Java, ASP.net platform is best?
We can have any type of server with any technologies listed above. This is for a big organization looking for marketing web presence with ecommerce + blog/forum technologies. Money is not an issue, development time is not an issue. Which of above is best and most preferred?
rel323 answers:
PHP is simplest, has many available and open frameworks for quickly assembling Web apps, etc. The problem for large scale deployment for large companies that handle more than a few concurrent customers is the scalability and general performance of a fully interpreted language like PHP. This rules PHP out for your case.
Java (JEE) and ASP.Net have the performance and scalability you need. Because ASP.Net is a Windows-only proposition, mainly, I would recommend Java (JEE). Your organization will have access to a much larger selection of technologies, frameworks, and libraries, many of which are open and free. As you need to grow and scale out for a hopefully growing customer base, Java JEE will allow you to grow your app. When you need distributed transactions, replicated HTTP Sessions to seamlessly hand off a client session when a server goes down, etc., JEE-based architectures will allow you to do such. You will have the flexibility to use a mix of Windows and Linux servers (or VMs), easily tie in or migrate from/to many database systems, incorporate various business intelligence solutions, etc.

Lizzie asks…
What do you call a company that own/run or invest in different companies?
Let’s say I started this company, whose main purpose is to invest and/or own other companies. For instance, BG enterprise is the company and let’s say it owns a “main-stream” blog, real estate company, and a flea market, what would BG enterprise be considered as? Could it be considered a venture capital firm, an investment firm, or what? Remember the main purpose of bg enterprise would be to own or invest in other companies..
rel323 answers:
A great example of a company like this is Berkshire Hathaway; they either own or invest in a wide range of companies including Florsheims, Coca Cola, various Newspapers, GEICO, other insurance firms, etc… The main purpose of the company is to purchase (buy entire company) or invest (primarily by buying shares) in undervalued companies.
Berkshire Hathaway is usually described as a “Diversified Company” or ocassionally as a “Conglomerate”.

which is more effective in business marketing.. blogging or tweeting?
my husband has the idea that we should blog about our mfg business (medical field) to help get our product out there for marketing purposes… im not sure that this is a good idea first of all.. but to satisfy his pressure.. im asking the question.. thanks for any help..
rel323 answers:
The answer is yes to both..
But it really depends upon your customers. What type of information would they want from you? I suspect they might want more than a 140 character tweet.
I use tweets to promote teleseminars and the seminars of my friends. The blog is the web based portion of my ezine. Since many email servers are blocking images, I have a link to a blog that is identical to the ezine at the top of the ezine. I learned this practice from viewing retailers like JC Penney.

Your Questions About Blog Marketing Plan
How would you have supported economic growth if the Republican Economic plan was in play?
http://www.fojb.com/blog/republican-economic-recovery-proposals/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
1. Immediate Tax Relief for Working Families: House Republicans propose reducing the lowest individual tax rates from 15 percent to 10 percent and from 10 percent to 5 percent. Under the proposal, a married couple filing jointly could save up to $3,200 a year in taxes.
2. Help for America’s Small Businesses: House Republicans propose to allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income. This will immediately free up funds for small businesses to create new jobs.
–> Small businesses (those employing 500 or fewer employees) can currently pay up to 35 percent of their income in taxes to the federal government. This is one of the highest rates among major economies of the world and Republicans want to ease the burden.
3. Assistance for the Unemployed: House Republicans propose to make unemployment benefits tax free so that those looking for work can focus on providing for their families.
4. Stabilizing Home Values: In order to encourage responsible buyers to enter the market and stabilize prices, House Republicans propose a home-buyers credit of $7,500 for those buyers who make a minimum down-payment of 5 percent
5. No Tax Increases to Pay for Spending: The congressional Democrats’ spending plan includes record levels of government projects and programs that will substantially increase the current deficit, without spurring a rapid economic recovery, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. House Republicans are concerned that this level of spending could result in near-term tax increases on American families and are insisting that any economic package include a provision precluding any tax increases now or in the future to pay for this new spending.

John asks…
are those who oppose obamas health plan comparing it to Canada because the accurate comparison is much better?
Germany, I dont hear anyone comparing it to Germanys health care system———-
It’s a talking point you hear regularly from President Obama–in order to fix the larger economy, healthcare costs have to be brought under control. That’s not just rhetoric, there’s plenty of empirical evidence to back up the claim, including two brand new studies.
The first, conducted by the non-profit Rand Corp links the rapid growth in U.S. health care costs to job losses and lower output. Commenting on the study at BusinessWeek’s Money & Politics blog, Cathy Arnst says
The Rand researchers examined the economic performance of 38 industries from 1987 through 2005, in an attempt to assess the economic impact of “excess” growth in health care costs on U.S. industries. Excess growth is defined as the increase in health care costs that exceeds the overall growth of the nation’s GDP—a yearly occurrence in the U.S. The team compared changes in employment, economic output and the value added to the GDP product for industries that provide health benefits to most workers to those where few workers have job-based health insurance.
After adjusting for other factors, industries that provide insurance had significantly less employment growth than industries where health benefits were not common. Industries with a larger percentage of workers receiving employer-sponsored health insurance also showed lower growth in their contribution to the GDP….
The rate of growth in U.S. health care costs has outpaced the growth rate in the gross domestic product (GDP) for many years. In 1940, the share of GDP accounted for by health care spending was just 4.5%. By 1990, it had reached 12.2%, and 16% in 2005, when health care spending totaled nearly $2 trillion, or $6,697 per person, far more than any other nation. This year health care spending is on track to equal 18% of GDP.
That’s largely the reason why so many American businesses are supporting reform.
Wal-Mart, on the other hand, recently came out in support of a mandate on employers to provide health insurance, and the temp firm Kelly Services, which employs thousands, followed with a similar statement.
Less noted has been the diversity of opinion among small and medium-size businesses. Many agree with the Chamber that a public insurance option would undermine the private insurance market and that requiring companies to provide coverage would impair job growth. Others say the current system is so broken that they are assessing whether to support the reform plans.
The wait-and-see approach that many businesses are taking — alternately skeptical and hopeful — is a further sign that the alliances that previously scuttled health-care reform may be scrambled this time around, not just in the health-care industry but also in the business world at large. President Obama and congressional Democrats face formidable obstacles to their reform efforts, but one factor in their favor is businesspeople who may not be as inclined as they were in the past to bring grass-roots pressure against reform.
Another new study, conducted by the progressive Center for American Progress looks at the potential costs for American families if the system isn’t reformed.
Health care costs are expected to grow 71 percent over the next decade, which will in turn drive premium increases for health insurance. Unless we take serious steps now to reform our health care system—in particular to reduce the rate of growth in health care costs—health insurance coverage will slip out of reach for even more individuals than the 52 million Americans who today are uninsured.
This analysis shows that without health reform, average family premiums will grow to more than $22,000 by 2019, up from $13,100 today. In some states with higher-than-average premiums, family premiums will exceed $25,000 in 10 years. Of course, a family’s total health care costs will be even higher once co-payments and other out-of-pocket expenses are calculated into the total.
The costs of not fixing this now are extreme, and have the potential to bankrupt not only individual Americans, but the country. It will continue to hamper job growth, which will in turn lead to more people unable to get insurance, which in turn will increase the premium costs for those “lucky” enough to have insurance. This is not an acceptable future.

Health care is an issue because of the baby boomers trying to get a free ride in about 15 years this problem will take care of itself the fact is average family sizes are getting smaller and the average age of America is getting older it will take well over 25 years to pay for this plan and no government plan has ever worked without going broke medicaid medicare ss all broke. And just to put it in more perspective, when medicare was initiated there was 25 young Americans for every one person using it currently the number is 4 to1

You should try to get a mentor. Many successful Realtors will take new Realtors under their wing and guide them along with the do’s and don’ts of the business. If that’s not possible, then you should try to do as many open houses for Realtors as you can. It’s a great way to generate leads because when you’re new, it’s difficult to really get started without some help. Doing open houses will also give you experience and is a great way to learn how to interact with clients/buyers and other Realtors and learn from your mistakes.
Good luck!

Is Google’s data grinder dangerous?
It wants to know more about us than we know ourselves.
By Andrew Keen, ANDREW KEEN is the author of “The Cult of the Amateur.” ak@aftertv.com.
July 12, 2007
WHAT DOES Google want? Having successfully become our personal librarian, Google now wants to be our personal oracle. It wants to learn all about us, know us better than we know ourselves, to transform itself from a search engine into a psychoanalyst’s couch or a priest’s confessional.
Google’s search engine is the best place to learn what Google wants. Type “Eric Schmidt London May 22″ into Google, and you can read about a May interview the Google chief executive gave to journalists in London.
Here is how he described what he hoped the search engine would look like in five years: “The goal is to enable Google users to be able to ask the question such as ‘What shall I do tomorrow?’ And ‘What job shall I take?’ ”
Schmidt’s goal is not inconsiderable: By 2012, he wants Google to be able to tell all of us what we want. This technology, what Google co-founder Larry Page calls the “perfect search engine,” might not only replace our shrinks but also all those marketing professionals whose livelihoods are based on predicting — or guessing — consumer desires.
Schmidt acknowledges that Google is still far from this goal. As he told the London journalists: “We cannot even answer the most basic questions because we don’t know enough about you. That is the most important aspect of Google’s expansion.”
So where is Google expanding? How is it planning to know more about us? Many — if not most — users don’t read the user agreement and thus aren’t aware that Google already stores every query we type in.
The next stage is a personalized Web service called iGoogle. Schmidt, who perhaps not coincidentally sits on the board of Apple, regards its success as the key to knowing us better than we know ourselves.
iGoogle is growing into a tightly-knit suite of services — personalized homepage, search engine, blog, e-mail system, mini-program gadgets, Web-browsing history, etc. — that together will create the world’s most intimate information database. On iGoogle, we all get to aggregate our lives, consciously or not, so artificially intelligent software can sort out our desires. It will piece together our recent blog posts, where we’ve been online, our e-commerce history and cultural interests. It will amass so much information about each of us that eventually it will be able to logically determine what we want to do tomorrow and what job we want.
The real question, of course, is whether what Google wants is what we want too. Do we really want Google digesting so much intimate data about us? Could iGoogle actually be a remix of “1984′s” Room 101 — that Orwellian dystopia in which our most secret desires and most repressed fears are revealed?
Any comparison with 20th century, top-down totalitarianism is, perhaps, a little fanciful. After all, nobody can force us to use iGoogle. And — in contrast to Yahoo and Microsoft (which have no limits on how long they hang on to our personal data) — Google has committed to retaining data for only 18 months.
Still, if iGoogle turns out to be half as wise about each of us as Schmidt predicts, then this artificial intelligence will challenge traditional privacy rights as well as provide us with an excuse to deny responsibility for our own actions. What happens, for example, when the government demands access to our iGoogle records? And will we be able to sue iGoogle if it advises us to make an unwise career decision?
Schmidt, I suspect, would like us to imagine Google as a public service, thereby affirming the company’s “do no evil” credo. But Google is not our friend. Schmidt’s iGoogle vision of the future is not altruistic, and his company is not a nonprofit group dedicated to the realization of human self-understanding.
Worth more than $150 billion on the public market, Google is by far the dominant Internet advertising outlet — according to Nielsen ratings, it reaches about 70% of the global Internet audience. Just in the first quarter of 2007, Google’s revenue from its online properties was up 76% from the previous year. Personal data are Google’s most valuable currency, its crown jewels. The more Google knows our desires, the more targeted advertising it can serve up to us and the more revenue it can extract from these advertisers.
What does Google really want? Google wants to dominate. Its proposed $3.1-billion acquisition of DoubleClick threatens to make the company utterly dominant in the online advertising business. The $1.65-billion acquisition of YouTube last year made it by far the dominant player in the online video market. And, with a personalized service like iGoogle, the company is seeking to become the algorithmic monopolist of our online behavior.
So when Eric Schmidt says Google wants to know us better than we know ourselves, he is talking to his shareholders rather than us. As a Silicon Valley old-timer, trust me on this one. I know Google better than it knows itself.

People’s personal data should be copy righted and user of that data (either personalized or categorically) should pay a fee negotiated between the data generator and the user.
For example, integrating a credit card spending event to a database may require the user to credit a penny to the credit card user, and integrating a larger spending such as a car may require the user to credit, let say, $20 to the car buyer’s account.

What do you get if you combine blogger + planner + SEO optimizer + copy writer into one job?
Hi I’m working for a start-up marketing agency in Korea and they have a position that they call “Content Planner”. I’m not sure what you call this in English, but I’ve been asked to translate, and I can’t make up a name for this position!!!
The job requirements is basically content writer (blogger), SEO optimization, copy writing, and blog planning (future blogs). Anyone know what I can call this position in English?
Thanks Marketeers!
