I’ve been reading up on blogging a little, but I do not have a great understanding about how internet business and advertising goes.

I’ve read that if you have a good blog, or even a great one and you begin to get a lot of hits and a loyal following, that you could even be approached by big companies wanting to advertise on your site.

Let’s say I created a blog that was super interesting and just knew it would be a big hit with anyone who read it and it got tons of hits, how would anyone know that my website was a hit or that it was popular? Would it have to be listed at the top of search engines, or could someone do some newspaper or some other type of advertising to promote their blog?

I just hear about all of these stories, like the creators of Ebay, MySpace and all of the others. How did they get noticed?
